Are you using Coconut Oil right now while life is somewhat normal? If you aren’t then you are missing out on some amazing benefits.
These are the kind of benefits you want daily whether in a SHTF situation or not.
My wife and I discovered the benefits of Coconut Oil about a year ago when she started using it for her skin in place of olive oil.
The results were amazing, then we read about using it mixed with bicarb of soda as a toothpaste. We followed the instructions and made a small batch.
It worked better than any toothpaste I have used and now I have whiter teeth and no more irritation where I had it before!
I know it sounds like it is some sort of miracle substance and actually it is! The more I research the more I find Coconut Oil is the answer.
So please read on to discover all the uses I have found (so far) for this Preppers dream substance – Coconut Oil.
Coconuts have kept humans fit and healthy for generations. Coconuts provides the flesh, milk and oil as well the shell getting it’s uses in different cultures around the world.
It is full of fat, all the good fats. Regardless of the medias attempts to demonise ALL fats we need them, brain needs them, our organs, our skin and honestly my beard needs them!
Virgin Coconut Oil is full of everything your body needs to thrive!
Get ready for information overload as there are ALOT of benefits.
As mentioned earlier I know the benefits from personal experience. Coconut Oil also stops the build up of plaque in the first place. Combined with Bicarbonate Soda it is a replacement for your toothpaste in every way.
When the insulin levels are controlled so is diabetes. Coconut Oil does this as well as maintaining effectiveness of using glucose in the body. In this way we can avoid the onset of glucose in the first place.
Most of us are accustomed to using moisturizers and conditioners to keep looking beautiful. With Coconut Oil we can replace all those products.
It does everything they do with no side effects. It’s anti oxidant properties mean that those with problems like eczema, dermatitis and other infections can use Coconut Oil with no problems and in some cases stop using prescribed creams entirely. (Always consult your doctor)
From my personal experience I saw my friend who had for a long time mystery skin problems such as sores and welts, even the occasional infection leading to blood poisoning.
Well he started on the Coconut Oil as a replacement for all the medications he was taking. Now gradually everything has been healing up and the irritation is gone.
Understandably he is a real convert and stockpiles the stuff.
As a proud bald man (I have more hair in my ears than I do on my head!) I can’t comment too much here apart from how my beard felt.
Now sometime I let it grow and after a few weeks it would get itchy. Now after a shower and drying off I rub some oil into the beard and massage it in.
Guess what? No more itchiness.
My wife is the real expert here as she is always getting dry hair or overly greasy hair. I have no idea why but it never seemed okay and alway an issue with it.
But yet again since using coconut oil no more issues. What she does is wash her with a shampoo free of Sulfates and other nasty chemicals. Then after instead of using a conditioner she will use Coconut Oil finds that this helps keep the natural oils of her hair at a happy medium.
It also stop things like dandruff, odor and even fights against lice and their eggs.
Guess what it helps here also. Due to high amounts of lauric acid it helps fight against cholesterol and high blood pressure. In fact it contains over 50% lauric fatty acids second only to breast milk.
Due to the presence of antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, in Coconut Oil which all have anti fungal qualities. Some research suggests its effectiveness against the common flu and even HIV.
This is a gem as it allows us to eat healthily and actually helps us feel full while aiding the functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off unnecessary weight.
There is a whole lot more health benefits that you can find listed here. I think though that it is safe to say that even if you are unconvinced there is actually enough evidence to give this a try yourself and see if you find benefit.
We will now look at what types of Coconut Oil we should get and what to avoid.
Types Of Coconut Oil
Honestly many of us and I hold my hand up to this, have not had any idea what type of Coconut Oil they have been using.
Basically if your Coconut Oil is tasteless and odorless then it is safe to say it is refined. With this you can use it for almost anything including the cooking of food.
It will generally last from 1 to 2 years depending on the brand, storage container and temperature.
Now this is what to get if you need your oil to last longer. It does have a little scent and taste of Coconut and will generally last longer if stored under the same conditions.
Coconut Oil can be kept as a liquid or in solid form. It does no harm either way but will generally last a little longer in a col dark place with no moisture.
Personally I find we use it far quicker if it is soft or in liquid form so for that reason we keep it as solid as possible. Also you want to only use a sterile spoon when using it as it easy to ruin the batch with strong flavors still remaining on your spoon.
This is another reason for keeping it hard as you can then easily remove anything mistakenly introduced to it.
You can use Coconut Oil when cooking with no problem at all. It will obviously depend upon what type you use as to whether there will be coconut taste or not.
You can replace vegetable oil and butter with Coconut Oil so it is really a multi use resource.
Buying Coconut Oil
Firstly I would try to purchase a small amount and use it as a sample. Perhaps get yourself refined and unrefined to see what you prefer.
Whatever you get go small, let your family try it. Use fir for skin, toothpaste replacement, for your cooking. I even have it in my coffee.
If you feel the benefits which I am fairly sure you will. Then I would advise buying in bigger quantities as this will be long term usage and you will save a lot of money buy bigger volume on a regular basis.
This of course also means that we are adding this vital resource to our prepping supplies having a large quantity on rotation.
I recommend you also try different brands as each has its unique taste and texture. The following are some I like but do your research and always buy small first.Viva Labs Coconut Oil
Summing It Up
In case you hadn’t guessed it I am a massive fan of Coconut Oil. It serves us in times of need and it serves us in normal day to day life. It just makes sense.
It replaces multiple products such as skin and hair care products, butter, vegetable oil, daily supplements for health so economically we are better off.
Most importantly it means I can replace many harmful products with one healthy product that does nothing but good for the whole family.
